Brunel has partnered with a global leader in high-speed aluminium vessel construction to recruit skilled Pipe Fitters for their operations in Australia.

Pipe Fitters are responsible for fabricating, assembling, installing and testing piping systems and associated components used in vessel construction, in accordance with the company’s design specifications, DNV standards, and vessel construction requirements.

In this role, you will:

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, isometric drawings and perform engineering measurements
  • Fabricate, assemble and install marine piping systems including hydraulic, fuel, water, air and drainage systems
  • Cut, bend, thread and form pipe using various tools and equipment
  • Measure, mark and calculate material quantities for pipe runs and fittings
  • Manufacture and install pipe supports, clamps, brackets and hangers
  • Prepare, fit-up and tack weld steel and aluminium piping components as required
  • Install valves, pumps, flanges and associated piping components
  • Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic and leak testing using testing equipment
  • Verify alignment, clearances and fit using measuring instruments
  • Install and route piping systems in confined spaces onboard vessels
  • Conduct test assemblies in workshops to ensure accuracy of fit
  • Produce work to survey and marine quality standards
  • Maintain records and complete reporting as required
  • Support general fabrication and pipe modification activities
  • Clean, flush and prepare systems for commissioning

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team with minimal direct supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver consistent high-quality work in a team environment
  • Experience working with marine or industrial piping systems preferred

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Cert III Engineering (Fabrication Trade / Mechanical Trade or equivalent)
  • Pipe Fitting trade qualification
  • White Card

Desirable

  • Cert IV Engineering
  • Experience in shipbuilding or marine construction
  • Experience with aluminium vessel construction
  • Working knowledge of DNV or marine class standards

Work Health and Safety

  • Identify and manage hazards and safety risks associated with assigned tasks
  • Report near misses and accidents
  • Support the introduction of health and safety improvements in the work area
  • Provide feedback to the WHS team to improve workplace safety processes and procedures
  • Adhere to a zero tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol in the workplace
