Through this partnership, we are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join Hatch’s Project Delivery Group (PDG)—a dynamic and globally integrated team delivering world-class projects. The PDG combines deep expertise in sustainable studies, asset development, and operations, leveraging industry-leading methodologies, governance, and systems.



PDG Geotechnical specializes in surface and subsurface investigations, soil mechanics, rock mechanics, numerical modeling, seismic assessment, geotechnical laboratory services, and construction services. Projects we support span the energy sector (water power and dams, wind, solar, geothermal, oil and gas), infrastructure sector (rail, tunnels, highways, bridges, ports & marine, transit, linear conveyance), and mining & metals sector (mine infrastructure, geotechnical investigations, slope stability).
 
The Geotechnical Engineer role is part of our team of engineers and geoscientists and will provide engineering services to projects across Hatch in the Infrastructure, Mining and Energy sectors. This role participates in a wide range of projects covering advanced numerical modeling, analysis and design for front-end planning as well as detailed engineering for multi-discipline projects, and geotechnical site investigations. 
 
As the successful candidate, you will:
  • Lead advanced geotechnical studies and the delivery of project requirements for projects varying from pre-feasibility stage to detailed design
  • Participate in scoping requirements for proposals
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews
  • Perform conceptual and detailed engineering design for linear infrastructure, port and marine infrastructure, dams, and shallow and deep foundations of industrial buildings.
  • Prepare engineering calculations where required including slope stability, retaining walls, foundation design, and embankment design
  • Undertake and lead geotechnical field investigation programs and prepare factual and interpretive geotechnical investigation reports
  • Perform seismic deformation assessments, liquefaction assessments, evaluations of settlement and lateral deformation
  • Represent the discipline in project engineering coordination meetings
  • Provide and/or coordinate training for resources assigned to the project
  • Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate staff members
  • Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications, and design criteria
  • Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, intermediate engineers, and designers
  • Ensure relevant technical experts are involved in the design process as required and facilitate the sharing of technical expertise both across projects and across Hatch offices globally.
  • Undertake office- and field-based geotechnical engineering for projects
  • Prepare technical specifications where required
  • Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise including soil characterization, interpretation, and recommendations.
  • Provide input to engineering, operating, and capital cost estimates
  • Stamp documents and drawings as required and if appropriately registered
  • Undertake construction supervision and management dependent upon project demands
  • Support of site engineering team to provide technical solutions and timely response to technical queries
  • Work to ensure the implementation of safety in design and integrity principles in design documentation
  • Identify project works that can add to the geotechnical field and where possible write a paper
 
You bring to the role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geological Engineering from an accredited university. Postgraduate degrees are an asset.
  • 7-10 years’ experience in relevant geotechnical design
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer
  • An educational and professional focus on soil mechanics and civil geotechnical work.
  • Experience working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards
  • Experience with Rocscience and GeoStudio tools. Experience with CLiq, CPe-IT, and knowledge of Plaxis or FLAC are an asset.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision
  • Good safety awareness.
 
Base salary range: $93,000 - $120,000
