About the role
The ideal candidate should have management and negotiation skills with extensive experience in an EPCM project environment on capital projects specifically in the award and administration of construction and services contracts. Sr. Contract Specialist will be part of a team focused on the award and management of construction and service contracts and will have a significant contribution to the completion of the project.  This is a 12 month hourly contract position.
 

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Be involved from the planning/initiation phase of projects until close-out of Construction scope and relates to the management of these construction and service contracts in support of engineering and construction management. 
  • Have experience in the discipline of contract management for construction scope in “Formation and Award” as well as “Administration and close-out” work processes of construction contracts in accordance with the project requirements.
  • Implement contracting strategy/procedures and templates / documents to be used on the project under the direction of the Contracts Manager.
  • Provide oversight, guidance and mentorship to other contract specialists.
  • Supports the identification and pre-qualification of contractors of construction and service contracts
  • Conducting the RFP process, coordination and communication with contractors and internal disciplines using iPas MP to maintain project schedules and prevent any delays
  • Liaison with Package Coordinator / construction to obtain and verify technical specifications, with the Planner to verify lead times and delivery dates and with other stakeholders,
  • Control and manage contractual change relating to scope, cost and time,
  • Program monitoring (scope, cost, and time) and progress meetings,
  • Develop, process and implement contractual documents and change notices in a timely manner,
  • Administrate contracts in accordance with general requirements of contractual terms and conditions,
  • Maintain various contract registers as per project instructions,
  • Manage claim administration, payment certification and cash flow forecast,
  • Management of securities/guarantees,
  • Close-out of contracts.

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • BA/BS degree in related field
  • 12+ years experience in procurement as Contract Formation Specialist / Contract Administrator of construction and service contracts
  • Experience with drafting and execution of commercial terms and conditions and understanding of accompanying legal implications,
  • Negotiations skills with an understanding of contracting strategies and implementation.
  • Experience working on large constructions site,
  • Excellent understanding of procurement and corporate governance principles,
  • Ability to fit into a team environment and personal skills to complement the teamwork,
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues,
  • Strong personal commitment to safety,
  • Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability,
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with SmartPlant Materials software is preferred.
