HV Project Manager - Data Center Power
Brunel has partnered with SB Energy to hire an HV Project Manager / Senior Project Manager – Data Center Power to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of high-voltage transmission, substation, and utility interconnection infrastructure supporting SB Energy’s data center developments in Pike County, Ohio.
In this role, you will serve as SB Energy’s Owner’s Representative, leading the delivery of critical high-voltage infrastructure from engineering and procurement through construction, commissioning, energization, and turnover. You will work closely with EPC contractors, utilities, consultants, equipment suppliers, engineering specialists, and the broader data center campus team to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with campus readiness milestones.

About the role:
The HV Project Manager / Senior Project Manager – Data Center Power will lead the execution and delivery of high-voltage infrastructure supporting SB Energy’s data center developments, including transmission lines, substations, switching stations, utility interconnections, and associated electrical infrastructure.
Serving as the Owner’s Representative, this role will coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, energization, and turnover while maintaining accountability for project cost, schedule, safety, quality, contractor performance, and execution risk.
Candidates hired at the Senior Project Manager level will manage larger or more complex scopes with greater independence, lead significant commercial and execution decisions within delegated authority, and provide guidance to other project delivery personnel.
Location: On-site – Pike County, Ohio
Responsibilities:
- Lead execution of high-voltage infrastructure projects, including transmission lines, substations, switching stations, utility interconnections, and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Serve as SB Energy’s primary project management contact for EPC contractors, consultants, utilities, equipment suppliers, and commissioning teams.
- Manage the transition from development, engineering, and permitting through procurement, construction, energization, and turnover.
- Establish and maintain project execution plans, integrated schedules, budgets, milestone tracking, forecasts, and risk registers.
- Coordinate with data center development, design, construction, operations, procurement, finance, legal, real estate, and permitting teams to resolve dependencies and support project objectives.
- Oversee contractor field execution, staffing, progress, quality, and compliance with contractual and project safety requirements.
- Lead project progress meetings and field reviews, identify constraints, and drive resolution of design, procurement, construction, and site issues.
- Evaluate contractor schedules, progress reports, payment applications, change requests, contractual notices, and supporting records.
- Develop and implement recovery plans when project performance threatens cost, schedule, quality, or energization milestones.
- Partner with the Project Engineer and engineering specialists to manage engineering deliverables, design reviews, RFIs, submittals, and technical issues.
- Coordinate interfaces among transmission, substation, protection and controls, SCADA, communications, and data center campus infrastructure.
- Oversee procurement and delivery strategies for long-lead equipment and materials, including transformers, breakers, switchgear, protection systems, and transmission materials.
- Track equipment manufacturing, inspections, delivery, and installation readiness and escalate issues that may impact construction or energization.
- Manage project delivery interfaces with utilities, transmission providers, applicable ISOs/RTOs, regulators, and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Coordinate interconnection requirements, utility approvals, transmission upgrades, outage planning, and energization sequencing.
- Own project budgets, forecasts, contingencies, cost reporting, and execution risks.
- Provide clear project status reports and executive updates, including emerging risks, mitigation plans, and decisions required.
- Lead commissioning and energization readiness with utilities, contractors, suppliers, engineering specialists, and operations teams.
- Coordinate testing plans, switching procedures, outage requirements, inspections, approvals, and energization plans.
- Drive punch-list resolution and delivery of as-built drawings, test records, equipment documentation, job books, and other turnover materials.
- Manage final contractor closeout and transition of completed infrastructure to operations.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Project Manager: 4–7 years of experience managing high-voltage transmission and/or substation projects.
- Senior Project Manager: 7+ years of experience managing high-voltage transmission and/or substation projects.
- Experience delivering projects within utilities, transmission development, EPC organizations, renewable energy, data centers, or comparable industrial or mission-critical infrastructure environments.
- Strong working knowledge of high-voltage substations, transmission line construction, utility interconnection processes, protection and controls, commissioning, and energization activities.
- Experience managing EPC contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, integrated schedules, change orders, forecasts, and execution risks.
- Proven experience delivering complex infrastructure projects against demanding schedules while coordinating significant utility and contractor dependencies.
- Strong knowledge of construction and electrical safety requirements.
- Ability to interpret engineering and construction documentation, identify technical risks, and engage appropriate subject matter experts.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work primarily at the assigned project site and travel as required.
Senior Project Manager Level:
- Demonstrated leadership of large or complex high-voltage projects with substantial responsibility for cost, schedule, contractor performance, and delivery outcomes.
- Experience independently managing significant commercial issues, executive stakeholder communications, and project recovery efforts.
- Ability to lead multiple interdependent work packages and mentor project management and field delivery personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience supporting hyperscale or large-scale data center developments.
- Experience with high-voltage infrastructure in the 69 kV–500 kV range.
- Experience with utility outage coordination, transmission planning, utility-scale commissioning, and grid integration.
- Familiarity with applicable NERC requirements, IEEE standards, the National Electrical Code, and utility standards.
- Experience managing large capital programs or multiple related infrastructure projects.
