We’re working with a major oil & gas client on an upcoming turnaround and are looking to bring on an experienced Operations Engineer to support the team.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll be working closely with planners, coordinators, and site teams to manage and drive the schedule through execution.
Start date: ASAP, with 40-hour work week.
Duration: 6 months contract (Independent contractor).
Location: Empress 6 gas plant
Schedule: 9/80 or 4/10
- Monday–Thursday: At site
- Friday: WFH
- This role is a hands‑on Operations (Mechanical) Engineer position supporting Turnarounds (TA) primarily, with additional support across ongoing operations and capital/projects as needed. The engineer will work closely with field teams in an aging but stable gas processing facility.
Responsibilities:
- Provide mechanical engineering support to plant operations and TA activities
- Support field‑based MOCs, process improvements, and operational troubleshooting
- Work with mechanical systems including, Piping systems, Pressure equipment, Rotary equipment, Materials and corrosion considerations
- Assist in preparing work packages for execution
- Engage daily with operators, maintenance personnel, and TA teams to solve field issues
- Take full ownership of deliverables with a focus on quality, timeliness, and accountability
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- P.Eng. (APEGA): Ideally within a couple of months of obtaining
- 4–10 years of experience (ideal target ~5 years)
- Not entry‑level; candidate must be able to operate independently
- Operations Engineering experience required
- Strong field experience in oil & gas or industrial facilities
- Working knowledge of ABSA, AER, ASME Codes
- Experience working in Gas plants and or Fractionation facilities is an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with operations, maintenance, and TA teams
- Strong cultural fit is essential, team values ownership, diligence, and a positive attitude
- Turnaround (TA) experience is an asset
- Resourceful and comfortable working with limited drawings or incomplete information
- Strong ownership mentality, delivers work on time and to a high standard
- Eager to learn and grow long-term
