Senior Piping Lead

Through this partnership, we are seeking a Senior Piping Lead to join Hatch’s Project Delivery Group (PDG)—a dynamic and globally integrated team delivering world-class projects. The PDG combines deep expertise in sustainable studies, asset development, and operations, leveraging industry-leading methodologies, governance, and systems.
Our Vancouver team is currently seeking a dedicated Senior Piping Engineer to lead piping discipline teams on project work in the office and be available for site visits. The role will focus on mining projects with opportunities to support other sectors as well. The Senior Piping Engineer is broadly responsible for leading project piping team(s) and managing project piping scope. Activities typically include establishing system requirements, defining design criteria, preparing engineering calculations, developing technical specifications, data sheets and reports. In addition, the Piping Engineer is required to develop, or provide input into, 3D models and 2D drawings.
Your Responsibilities:
- Lead piping project teams consisting of piping engineers and designers, reporting to project Engineering Manager/ Project Manager.
- Contribute to proposals by defining piping scope and estimating piping effort.
- Manage project piping schedules and budgets, including change management, work plan development and progress reporting.
- Lead preparation of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Piping Isometrics
- Lead and/ or provide input to piping 3D models
- Lead, prepare or provide input to piping lists (line list, valve list, specialty items, support) and MTOs
- Lead/ perform Trade off Studies, line sizing, branch sizing calculations, define design criteria, piping material specifications, and develop system layouts and designs.
- Lead preparation of hydraulic calculations and preliminary pump selections. Hydraulic calculations include settling slurry calculations.
- Lead preparation of stress analyses design criteria and calculations
- Lead/ prepare pipe support standards.
- Lead/ prepare technical specifications packages and perform technical bid evaluations for procurement of piping components.
- Lead and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise
- Lead piping input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
- Contribute to project design reviews meetings.
- Piping input to project status reports.
- Respond to piping technical queries raised during the construction phase.
- Assist in the commissioning of systems on site as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc/BEng in mechanical or industrial plant engineering.
- Registration as a professional engineer.
- Minimum fifteen years project engineering experience. The ideal candidate will have experience as a piping lead or is a piping engineer working under a lead striving to advance into this lead role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to function with minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of industry standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the piping engineering discipline.
- Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate between disciplines
- Sound knowledge of 3D data centric design systems
- Sound knowledge of engineering management systems
- Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
- Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects
Base salary range: $120,000 - $180,000
